The concept of the SADKO restaurant and basis of the cuisine were determined by its proximity to the river and location in the historical building of the river port. Restaurant’s name refers to an ancient folklore legend about a merchant who once traveled to the kingdom of the sea sovereign. The combination of the extraordinary and unbelievable beauty of the underwater world and a fairytale with folklore patterns immerses guests in a magical mystical atmosphere.
The main task given by the Berrywood Family restaurant group was to create the atmosphere immersing guests in the sea world. The restaurant’s interior is dark, almost monochrome, with lots of reflective metal surfaces. Bright accents — ceramic corals — refer to underwater landscapes. The concrete wave that stretches throughout the space is our tribute to modernist architecture. We decorated surfaces with tailor-made plaster moldings to create expressively fairytale atmosphere. Windows that do not overlook the river are covered with fabled motifs screens. The design of moldings and screens was exclusively created for the project by modern Siberian artist.
Interior of the SADKO restaurant — is mix of building’s classic architecture with a touch of modern trends. Working with spaces of cultural heritage is exciting though might be quite complicated. The floor level was uplifted in order to preserve historical ceiling and install AC-system. The limited number of electrical outputs led to creative decision to fix more than 200 “jellyfish” lamps using transparent wires to get the composition reminiscent of algae dance in sea water.
