Knyaz Gvidon is an elegant restaurant located in Irkutsk city. It offers its guests exquisite cuisine supported by an atmospheric and sophisticated interior with recognizable elements from Alexandr Pushkin’s beloved fairy tale. Respecting the historical value of the building dated 1880, we designed a modern space featuring a fairy-tale ambiance and references to its architectural heritage.
The main challenge was by the means of fairy-tale symbolism (avoiding populist aesthetic) and architectural history to provide guests with a memorable and refined restaurant experience that meets the expectations of high-end service and complements the upscale cuisine.
The hand-painted mural reproducing plasterwork on the walls and ceiling plays the key role in creating artistic and emotional space. It is also a tribute to the building’s historical and architectural heritage. The motifs, based on “The Tale of Tsar Saltan,” immerse guests in an artful setting and create a basis for a contemporary interpretation. Spatial layouts, architectural elements, art objects, up-to-date furniture, and the use of stainless steel in the interior make space modern and fashionable. The multi-level lighting solution serves as a tool for both scenography and comfort.
